Alice Padovani - ARCHIVAL IMPULSE OR THE MUSEUM-MACHINE | CIVIC MUSEUMS, MODENA

Site-specific installation for Festivalfilosofia 2020. 18 - 19 - 20 September 2020 Modena, Lapidario Romano of Civic Museums, curated by Serena Goldoni, Cristina Stefani, Cristiana Zanasi

The museum, intended as a classification machine, in the nineteenth century represented a fundamental research and dissemination tool, a link between the society of that time and scholars. The Museum of nineteenth-century "with its classification and evolutionary orientation" is proposed as a concrete and intelligible realization of an ideology of progress in which the human being, at the center of nature, can classify it, understand it in its most complex functioning mechanisms, dominate it finally towards an unstoppable progress. The past, witnessed by the humble tools of the Paleolithic man to the machines with automatisms, is finally there, imprisoned in orderly shop windows to tell the "positive" story of humanity.

  • Camilla Ancilotto - Museo a cielo aperto

    Palermo, 2021

Un museo a cielo aperto is a spontaneous initiative presented to the deputy mayor and to the superintendency by some residents of Palermo. Together with the exhibition curator Miliza Rodic, they asked to redevelop the area of via Principe di Granatelli through some murals and works of art. The requalification project of the square involves the installation of sculptures with the intention of creating a public museum. "Sustainability", "Respect for nature" and "Positive thinking" are the main themes assigned to the artists who have embraced the vision and the project, making their works freely accessible to the community as well as transforming them in heritage of the Municipality. Camilla Ancilotto, with this operation, will effectively become an artist of public works.

  • Alice Padovani - PENELOPE'S GAZE | Palazzina di Caccia Stupinigi | Torino

Stupinigi Penelope's Gaze is a project promoted by Art Site Fest 2020 in Turin, the contemporary art festival in which site-specific installations are set up in historic residences and buildings in Piedmont. The theme of this sixth edition is “mending the world”, or “mending the world”. A very current topic if we think of the fractures that Covid has caused and still causes. The event, curated by Domenico Maria Papa, saw the intervention of 4 artists (Alice Padovani, Elisa Bertaglia, Florencia Martinez, Monika Crycko) elaborating a visual path within the magnificent spaces of the Stupinigi Hunting Lodge.

Alice Padovani - SYSTEMA NATURAE | Archivio di Stato of Turin

9 September > 10 November 2020. Site-specific exhibition during the Art Site Fest Torino 2020, curated by Domenico Maria Papa

The works of Systema naturae exhibition have been chosen, and in some cases specially created, to trigger a confrontation and a dialogue on themes that are in a disruptive way part of both the artist's approach and the very nature of an archive, in this case of 'State Archives of Turin'. In Alice Padovani's works, the artist classifies and collects, collects and orders, but sha always does it in favor of a more instinctive gesture that has nothing to do with what could be scientific or study criteria. She wanted to present works that closely recall the sense of archiving and cataloging. The order is partly abandoned in favor of a collection that is above all an accumulation and where the vision, in this illusory lack of control, becomes more disturbing.

  • Alice Padovani - BOSCO MATRICE | SICREATIVE PROJECT - LUISS HUB MILANO

15 - 19 October 2018 - Milano Luiss Hub, Artistic Residene coordinated by Alice Padovani for Si Creative project
  • The artist Alice Padovani created an artistic installation in the garden of the Milan LUISS hub, with the help of the boys and girls who applied for the call. For SICreative, Alice Padovani created an installation entitled "Bosco Matrice" which has Nature as its fulcrum, the matrix and mother that is the basis of existence and is the origin and cause of everything. The first guiding concept of the collective work is Nature and the second is Memory: we usually associate memory, and therefore the predisposition to acquire knowledge, to organisms with brains such as humans and animals. However, science has discovered that memory, closely connected to learning, is not the result of a single organ and that the brain may not be indispensable for the development of intelligence. In fact, it belongs to all living beings and plants are proof of this: they are able to learn from experience, they have a plant memory that allows them to adopt behaviors and respond to the surrounding environment and to accidental stimuli. In recent years, science has begun to draw great inspiration from plants and this "bio-inspired" approach could lead to the solution of technological problems and new revolutionary inventions, creating innovative perspectives for the expansion of human knowledge.

The installation consisted of a series of vertical structures that created a path in the outdoor spaces of the Milan LUISS Hub for makers and students. Small towers that with their shapes recall the shapes of skyscrapers, inhabited forests of the surrounding neighborhood. The structures will be covered with a multitude of objects whose memory is uncertain: they are pieces, gears, mechanisms, electronic components that were once part of something more complex, a machine, a technological body that is now disintegrated and gives us its unique and singular parts.

May 2016 - Site-specific installation and performance on the occasion of the European Night of Museums

Limes: limits, old hatreds, new borders.

To limit. To protect. To invade. To contain.

Only pretexts to draw new maps.

Geography comes from hatred, Balkans area is no exception.

  • Alice Padovani - RADICATI | MuDi Museo Diocesano di Arte Sacra | Green Routes Taranto

5 - 10 July 2018. Site-specific installation on the occasion of Green Routes Taranto: a partnership project of Eccom.
  • The work was born from a reflection on personal memory, on the meaning of having racides that go deep into both physical and emotional territory. Showing one's roots is an act of strength and fragility at the same time. It means exposing nature, the deepest and most intimate form of it. It means exposing the most vulnerable and personal side to the gaze of others, the corner where memories and shadows, treasures and pains are kept. Like a dead tree showing its roots, we show our truest side when we talk to the world about our memory. We are animals and nature resists within us through memory, the root of our past that unites us to plants and beasts, which brings to light moments of pure instinct. A multitude of different objects have been grafted onto the dead tree that became the starting point for the creation of the work: a key, a stone, a fragment of childhood set like precious gems, gave rise to a large plant altar.

Several people were actively involved in the creation of the work, inhabitants of Taranto who were asked to donate a small part of their history in the form of an object, an "ex-voto" representing an instant, a feeling, a a desire or intention.

Alice Padovani - 8. OPERA EFFIMERA | Musei Civici, Reggio Emilia

February 2015 site-specific installation and performance on the occasion of the European Night of Museums

8 is the intuition of the present and the search for the infinite. It is an intimate and personal game that reveals that fleeting moment of perfection and beauty in which we can read the fragile balance of nature. 8 is the attempt to preserve the ephemeral, to tie it with thin threads before it can be corrupted. 8 is to collect, engrave, remember, hang, dry, arrange, drain, search for infinity. 8 recalls a death and makes one think of a life.

The performative action lasted about 4 hours.

This work is placed in a hybrid way between two genres: installation and performance art. The installation has an initial form and a static final form that can exist beyond the performative act, like a sculptural work. The time of creation is a dilated time: the performance can be followed, abandoned and rediscovered by the spectator, lived without clamor, as a constant presence.
