Shapes and colors are Federica Cipriani's alphabet. Butterflies, fragile and light, make up three-dimensional volumes. The sense of harmony is not only her ultimate goal, but it's also embedded within the process, the time and the space preparation in which she gets lost during production: the hand-cutting of hundreds of shapes, materials processing and their bond together project me into a parallel dimension.
Her work represents the encounter between her artistic and classical studies and artisan hands-on training, between emotions and rationality, between movement and stillness, free chaos and static rigor: discordant stages that all belong to the artist.

The butterflies, protagonists of this series, in their fragile and light elegance, compete together with the volumes, the colors and the shape they take to give life to that harmonious study of form in the space that is the final subject of each composition. The paper is a raw material and makes the works alive: the shapes, for a current of air or even just a faint breath, move making the perception of the movement simulated in the composition real in all respects. The profiles take shape from recycled paper or plain paper re-used from pages of forgotten, old and yellowed books or from forms filled in every day that now got a new life.
Through a process of abstraction of form, the flock becomes a representation of a group and an instrument of reflection. The lines in the background of some works visually recall the image of the windy currents and dialogue with the overlying shapes in a symbolic map: they are portions of a fingerprint, a representation of the individual identity in relation to others.
